Magic

The theme of my pieces is magic. I want to bring magic to everyday life. So many aspects of our everyday lives are repetitive and mundane. We may find ourselves trapped in the repetition if we don’t take time to look for the magic. I made my pieces large and colorful so they would take up space and catch the viewer’s eye. The subjects of the sculptures are all relatively normal objects, but they are abnormally large and painted with designs that wouldn’t be found in nature. I wanted to represent the relationship between humans and their natural environment. So much of the building of our civilizations is centered around tearing down the natural landscape– making things smooth, monotone, and symmetrical. The purpose of these sculptures is to represent the fact that man and nature ought to exist in harmony with one another, yet they are undoubtedly distinguishable from one another.
