My sustained investigation explores the emotional complexity of adolescence, capturing transitional moments that include both independence and self-reflection. Whether a teen peers into a mirror, stares out a foggy car window, or blows bubble gum, my photographs are unwritten narratives of young people, almost cinematic film stills where the viewer deciphers the story for themselves. I use car lights and phone flashlights to create high contrast images with warm, moody tones that convey this internal conflict and transition. Recurring symbols like candy, cars, and mirrors represent lingering childhood, freedom, and introspection. Through the process of developing my voice, I found myself especially drawn to mirrors. Mirrors created a frame-within-a-frame and made my images feel like abstract, unwritten narratives, where the viewer is left wondering what’s happening. This shift of focus deepened my work. As teenagers confront their own reflection, the viewer is also invited to interpret the untold stories in each image.
